Camden MSK Lockdown Group
Twice weekly virtual ‘check in’ for patients with chronic pain associated with MSK conditions. Open to our patients, their carers, clinicians and public with MSK interest. Very loose and flexible.
Many of our patients are shielding / self isolating and felt they needed to connect with others in similar situation.
Patient Director and Clinical Director both attended these informal meetings Tuesdays and Fridays having spoken to patients to choose days and times to suit their requirements. Eg not early morning due to pain levels
After a month the patients wanted more input from clinicians and community physios joined from one of partners each week when possible.
All sessions didn’t have an agenda and literally cover the issues that come up for the patients that week and clinicians decide on topic with patients.
Long term conditions
Deconditioning through COVID
Seated exercises
Medications
Govt Advice
General conversation
Music choices
Meditation and Yoga
These are just some of the conversation topics that were had.
What developed was a deeper understanding of chronic pain patients as the ‘power’ is equal. Everyone living through pandemic and realising the importance of connecting as people. Struggles were recognised in a much deeper way as we had an hour each session.
Discussions around helping with the MSK recovery strategy meant this group pulled together in a very unique way.
Some have got on to join our patient advisory group.
