Ascenti Physio App/Telehealth

Patients having access to Physiotherapy and FCP assessment and rehabilitation throughout the COVID crisis. In particular, in the Central Lancashire Moving Well service - maintaining the great relationship with our Rheumatology and Pain Team colleagues.

The ability for patients to get timely and appropriate help and support has been really well received.

What is needed to sustain the change?

The benefits of video assessment in the future may reduce the need for face to face appointments and speed up the initial contact time.

It has also demonstrated to the Ascenti Physio Team how important good communication is and has improved their verbal skills.

The App developed by Ascenti is very impressive and timing was opportune that this launched prior to covid-19 . The ability to "push" information to patients and then empower patients to engage with their management plan are invaluable especially at this time of remote working.

Thank you for sharing this strategy - are you able to share any thoughts on the pros and cons from a patient experience perspective on the assessment format options going forward and for investing in retaining virtual consultations in the format options ?- thank you

Hi Carol,
The feedback from patient has shown us that they appreciate having an appointment within their own environment. The convenience and safety of being in their home is appreciated.
There is a lot that virtual appointments can deal with - especially promoting exercise as a great rehabilitation tool. I find that a lot of the time, MSK conditions are well managed this way.
This then leaves face to face appointments only for those patients who require it - maybe hands on treatment or further assessment. This is a smarter use of resources.
I strongly feel that without the Coronavirus, virtual assessment and treatment would have developed slowly. This has brought the integration of telehealth into the public domain swiftly - and also that is welcomed by the patients.
I think that GP's will also stick with a lot more telephone and video appointments in the future as patients can be seen quicker without the need for travelling and waiting times in a surgery to get the treatment they need. I think that Allied Health Professionals can also take some of this workload in the future (Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners etc).
I would recommend virtual as initial appointment in future and retain face to face appointments as and when required. Follow ups can be a blended mix of both.
