Online groups/classes

by Ben Wanless | May 27, 2020 | in Pain Management

The MSK team at St George's have moved their popular group based classes/programmes to youtube. These include ESCAPE-back, https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLN0-0zh4XsR0PdIXPKsYZk2zbR2wRqbDY Fitness for Function https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqwFUv-L4kA&list=PLN0-0zh4XsR1_r4QO5N0GslJj2L848qnE

Our pain management team have also launched their own youtube channel with videos and advice - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdfnrLRiS88qpJhozHcPsWA

The next stage is to launch these as live groups via Attend Anywhere.

What is needed to sustain the change?

The you tube videos are locked in, but to create more we will need resources - time and kit.

To get the classes/groups to a live platform we need Attend Anywhere to be robust enough to cope with 6+ participants. Currently it doesn't support this.

What is your region?

London

Hi Ben
Really helpful to learn of this access created to help people with management of their conditions and as a shared resource. Some services have used Zoom to provided real-time classes also. I wondered on your thoughts on a wider collaboration to develop these resources if it could help the cost of production or any sources of funding support explored? The need for these support resources would seem a national NHS issue.
All thoughts appreciated

Hi Carol, There was a need to act quickly to provide resources for locally comissioned services and populations, which has resulted in lots of resources being created in silo's and work being dulicated. Completely agree that longer term we need to pool resources or seek central funding. Ideally we need a mixture of pre-recorded content like the ones we have created but also live versions so people can engage with clinicians and each other. BUT..... the platform needs to be secure. Zoom isnt a viable option for a live resource. We just need the secure options to get better.....

Fantastic to hear and aware we deliver Escape Pain programmes locally and have highlighted these resources to our Ascenti colleagues who deliver these

Hi Ben
Great to hear these resources have been developed, our Ascenti colleagues locally deliver our Escape Pain programme and aware they have been using online resources but will highlight this post to them to ensure they're aware of all resources that have been developed

Hi Will
Wasn't sure whether you were keeping an eye on all the domains in the changechallenge…… but this was very relevant to your teams delivering our Escape Pain programme locally

Hi Ben, really helpful to share this, we too are starting delivery of virtual classes. Have you undertaken any comparison of clinical outcomes in comparison to the classes you previously delivered face to face? Going forward it would be good to identify if there are any subgroups that benefit more from a face to face versus virtual approach

Hi Ruth, no not yet. The first bit of work is to ask people if they actually use the resources before we start looking at outcomes. I think the true test will be when we can offer patients a choice of virtual or face to face. Then we can truely compare a) what people want and b)if outcome differ
